The Top 5 Comic Con Trailers from Comic Con 2017

The San Diego 2017 Comic Con was an epic affair, with an epic number of movie trailers dropping.  The biggest movie trailer out there now is of course Avengers: Infinity Wars.  But that one is secret.  However, there was no shortage of other big reveals.  You can find the full list of Comic Con trailers out there on tons of websites.  So we’ll spare you the full list.  We’re going to go ahead and make some tough decisions here and provide our Top 5 Comic Con trailers from the 2017 San Diego festival.  Let’s get started:

Justice League

Justice League is coming to us hot of the big DC success that was Wonder Woman.  Well, Gal Gadot will be joining the rest of the gang for a slightly bigger affair.  Batman, The Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and the lesser known Cyborg will come together to defend the world, after it lost it’s hero Superman.  The trailer(s) that have been released so far have been great, but the new Comic Con trailer really picked it up a notch.  Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot take front and center, but there’s plenty of other action to go around.  Of course, DC have always made great trailers, and the movies have rarely delivered, but let’s hope Justice League is more in the Wonder Woman realm than the Suicide Squad one!

Thor: Ragnarok

The first trailer for Thor: Ragnarok was solid but a little underwhelming.  Despite it’s funny moment between Thor and Hulk, it just didn’t give us much.  However, the Comic Con trailer for Thor really gave us some insight into what the film is going to be about and a better idea of which characters might be making an appearance, including everyone’s favorite villain, Loki.  Cate Blanchett looks to be a worthy adversary and let’s hope Chris Hemsworth and Thor: Ragnarok continues Marvel’s great run.

Stranger Things: Season 2

Stranger Things really came out nowhere last year.  It was an instant classic, bringing us all back to the 80’s and early 90’s in a way that Spielberg’s Super 8 almost did, but didn’t quite nail.  Well, Season 2 is almost upon us and what’s immediately clear is that it will be a whole lot darker.  There was a lot of humor in the first season, which is expected when the film’s main characters are four goofy kids.  But it looks like Season 2 is going to be a lot darker, a lot scarier and perhaps even better than the first.

Ready Player One

Stephen Spielberg is back, and he’s bringing us a film version of the popular Science Fiction fantasy novel, Ready Player One.  The story really is every 80’s kid’s dream.  Writer Ernest Cline created a world where global warming and an energy crisis left the economy in shambles and people escape using OASIS, basically a virtual reality online video game world.  The world contains an ‘Easter Egg’ left there by its creator, that promises a fortune to who finds it.  The films protagonist, player by Tye Sheridan, is a young man from the slums with the hope of finding it.  He’ll have the pleasure of contended with some of the most famous faces in pop culture as he battles his way through the likes of Freddy Kruger and Harley Quinn to Iron Giant and The Delorean.  As comic con trailers go, this one is a doozy.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Kingsman: The Secret Service was a surprise hit, and launched Taron Egerton into stardom.  It was destined for a sequel and here it is.  It looks like most of the usual suspects are back, from Mark Strong and surprisingly Colin Firth, although in what capacity (considering the events of the first film), remains to be seen.  Sequels to films like that can often disappoint, but John Wick 2 pulled it off and if the comic con trailer is any indication they might be just fine.  Set to the wonderful voice of Frank Sinatra, the trailer promises more of the same over the top action and great gags.

Well, there you have it.  That’s our list of the best Comic Con trailers on show this year in San Diego.  Let’s hope the real thing is as good as the previews.
