‘The Purge Trailer Is Released…WTF (In A Good Way)

The purge trailer

The new trailer for ‘The Purge’ just dropped and I have to say it has my attention. It seems that Hollywood may finally be starting to throw some new creative ideas into the mix. You know, wedged somewhere between the onslaught of sequels and remakes. But as we know, there are really no new ideas, just bits and pieces of stories that are “borrowed” from other sources and there is nothing wrong with that.

So if you haven’t seen the trailer yet here is the synopsis: Due to overcrowded prisons, the U.S government allows a 12-hour period once a year where all crime is legal. This so called “Purge” has worked to whittle unemployment down to 1% and makes crime almost nonexistent. The only trick is, each year you have to survive the 12 hours. Well this year, one family foolishly invites a stranger who is being targeted by sinister group into their home. With their home under invasion, their only hope is to make it through the night.

Kind of crazy, right? I’m really hoping ‘The Purge’ can be this years ‘Cabin in the Woods.’  Not, so much from the comedy standpoint, but from the kick-ass new idea horror/action hybrid genre.

Also, the film has Lena Headey in it and that makes me smile. Not, only is she wonderful to look at, but she knows how to act as well. It also, stars one of cinema’s most underappreciated actors, Mr. Ethan Hawke.

“The Purge” is writer/director James DeMonaco’s directorial breakthrough. While, he has had success as a writer. This is only his second directed film and honestly I have never heard of his first one. So, good luck James, I’m pulling for you.

The Bottom-line is, this is a well-made trailer. I love when trailers use very recognizable happy songs remixed in incredibly creepy ways. In this case it is ‘America the Beautiful.’

Needless to say. I’m pretty psyched about the possibilities with ‘The Purge.’  And get ready to see these masks stocked in every Halloween USA nationwide this October.

  1. Are you serious?? You actually want to see this piece of shit? The director should die because of his uncreative, and super unbelievable plot. Seriously you must be a total idiot and don’t fuel the fire for these lame ass directors that just throw a bunch of shit together for the sake of getting paid.

    • The director has nothing to do with the plot. The writers create the plot. I can agree with you when you say super unbelievable, but uncreative? Seriously? In the past 10 years or horror we have had remakes of Texas Chainsaw (2 times), Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Amityville Horror, My Bloody Valentine, Last House on the Left, Evil Dead and so many more. Or we can talk about Saws 1-7. Paranormal (Blair Witch Rip-off) 1-4. The exorcism of every little girl who sees a scary white face.

I hear you when you say this movie could suck and something like The Purge could never happen. But when you say uncreative, you lose credibility.

  2. Go ahead delete my comment moderator. I’m sure you don’t want the intelligent crowd to see my comment for the sake of your dignity.

    • I would never delete such an eloquently written comment.

I agree that there are a lot of lame directors throwing crap together – not sure I can agree that he should die. But again, that’s your opinion.

Also – un-creative? Well, this is a very unique idea compared to any movie I’ve seen in recent years. Unbelievable – ok, I’ll give you that, but so is The Dark Knight and that wasn’t too bad eh…

Maybe it will be crap. Maybe it will be good. We’ll see…..Thanks for reading!

  3. You have such shit taste in movies.
