Justin Timberlake has just release his latest album, a long awaited record after taking a break from music to pursue a more serious acting career. During the musical hiatus Justin has been able to make quite a name for himself in the acting world, landing a key role in ‘The Social Network’ and taking the lead on two popular films ‘Friends With Benefits’ and ‘In Time.’ With one of the most natural charms in show business, he was sure to be a hit in the acting world, but he has shown signs of being a legitimate actor. The latest news suggests that he may have landed the role that could put him to the next level.
In ‘Spinning Gold’ Timberlake will take on the role of music legend ‘Neil Bogart’ who was an executive who signed some of the most famous musicians and groups in the history of the industry back in the 1960’s and 1970’s before dying of cancer at age 39. This is the kind of biopic that gives its star an opportunity to really flex their muscles and often lands actors with nominations at the major awards shows. Bogart’s story is one of a man who started with nothing and built himself from the ground up, which certainly adds to the films potential audience popularity.
Timberlake is obviously as close to the music industry as any actor in Hollywood, more like the singer-actors of old like Sinatra who could really do it all. Just pure talent. So for that reason the film is certainly going to be close to his heart, and he has put in a lot of work to get the film funded and off the ground. He will take on major producer duties, along with a variety of other big names. He worked closely with Neil Bogart’s family to develop the screenplay and get the film made. Hopefully this just adds to the authenticity of the film.
I am a huge fan of Timberlake and would love to see him succeed in terms of critical acclaim as an actor (he certainly doesn’t need the money). Hopefully this is the role to do it. He will also star in the upcoming crime thriller ‘Runner, Runner’ with Ben Affleck.
