‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Trailer Showcases Chris Evans and an All Star Cast

The Marvel movie world continues to grow.  With The Avengers being the massive success we all expected it would be, and three of the major franchises (Thor, Iron Man and Captain America) booming with sequels themselves, the ceiling appears endless.  The trailer for the new Thor film has been out for a while, and the brand new trailer for ‘Captain America: The Winter Solider’ has officially been released.

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America but this time he brings with him a massive cast of fellow Avengers and even some new faces.  Samuel L Jackson returns again, but so does Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow.  Then we add Anthony Mackie as Falcon, who comic book fans will know well.  Robert Redford joins the cast as potentially a higher up member of S.H.I.E.L.D, which is a really big piece of casting for the franchise, and Marvel.

Big questions were always asked about the return, or lack thereof, of Steve Rogers love interest from the past, Peggy Carter (played by the lovely Hayley Atwell).  Her name shows up on the cast list, but I didn’t see her in the trailer and there is a good chance she will just show up as a flashback.  However, we all know that movie makers like to keep things secret, so who knows.  Maybe she’ll even show up as an elderly version of herself, in the present day.  We’ll see!

Also returning, is Steve Rogers old friend Bucky Barnes, who we saw pass away in battle in The First Avenger.  Of course, he is returning as a villain, ‘The Winter Soldier’ likely controlled by some outside force.  That is detail that we aren’t aware of here, but are looking forward to finding out.

While The First Avenger was certainly a great film, as most of the Marvel movies are, there were some small flaws with it, such as the editing and flow of the action sequences, and some not so great acting.  However, my thoughts on the trailer are that it looks a little bit less campy and also a lot cooler.  I think it will be refreshing to take the Marvel franchise back to a slightly more ‘human’ form, with a lot of aliens (The Avengers, Thor) and weird superhuman monster powers (Iron Man 3) taking center stage of late.

The film is to be released on April 4th, 2014.
